Of the 17 ethernet ports:
4 are "server" machines:
(1) is the case studies server. This will be merged onto another machine, partly to get it onto a unix or linux platform.
(10) is the epic server, which was used for proxying web accesses from epic study participants. This machine also serves material from older projects (LiNC and MOOsburg). As epic work winds down, this material could be merged onto the teacherbridge server.
(17) serves the teacherbridge and java bridge sites. These sites have alot of aliases, eventually including www.hci.vt.edu.
(9) is the centralized file server, java.cs.vt.edu. It also serves CoWebs and other working materials for ongoing projects.
10 are used for GRA/REU workstations (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 15, 16)
2 are used for the SmartBoards (8 and 14)
1 is used for the testing machine in 3180 (13)
Proposed plan:
Activate two additional ports in 3160A to accommodate the UCS server during the transition to an alternate platform and allow one wired connection per desk.
Alternatively, we could activate one additional port in 3160A and one additional port in 3160B, moving the UCS server into the storage room.
Merge the teacherbridge and epic servers, eventually archiving the epic databases.
Move the teacherbridge server into the 3160B storage area, and use port 17 for an REU machine.
