Sterling as a musician was accomplished well past what he'd admit to. As a percussionist he was part of the best rhythm section the Shed ever had along with Greg and George. As a harp player, I can remember specific moments of genius. As each player would play a lead during a song, the rest of us do our best to make our rhythms support that player, and we listen so closely that you can feel each note because you know the person so well. On more than one occasion, Sterling would be playing a lead, and he would play a phrase that literally brought a smile to my face that I could not have repressed had I wanted to. Those moments are with me as priceless treasures I will carry always.

Sterling as a man inspires me. So many talents in such a humble man is an honorable thing. So much giving from someone so busy is a loving thing. So much concern for his fellow man is again a loving thing. So many friends are a testament to his availability and easy nature. So many smiles and words of encouragement from anyone make you take notice that this was a man who truly thought of others before himself.

Time will take away some of the sting, but it will not replace everything that he was to those lucky enough to come in contact with him. I thank God for our times together. It gives pause to think that if God gave us Sterling, maybe there's more of his kind sprinkled throughout this world. I hope so. It offers hope to think so. And Sterling has left hope in me that I can do better. He always encouraged me. I hope I may be able to learn from his wonderful example, to edify and encourage everyone I meet. God Bless you and your family Sterling. - Craig
