Other Notes of Interest.
STUDENT APPLICATION PROCESS: Students view project descriptions and request projects by accessing the “student” information page of our website: http://www.vtserves.vt.edu
SERVICE-LEARNING ORIENTATION: Students must attend a service-learning orientation or supplemental orientation if they are in a class where their service-learning experience will involve consistent and significant interaction with individuals external to the Virginia Tech community. These orientations can be done in class or can be done outside of class. Students can attend one of the sessions listed in January if an in-class orientation is not conducted. We recommend in class orientations if all the students will be participating in service-learning.
STUDENT NOTIFICATION: Students are notified of their placement via email generally from February 1st – February 8th., upon notification students will be given directions on how to meet with their site leaders.
REFLECTION SESSIONS: We strongly encourage faculty to include in-class reflection discussions on service-learning in semester plans. The Service-Learning Center will be glad to facilitate or take part in these in-class sessions. A reflection session is simply a round-table discussion on the observations students have on their projects. The goal of these sessions is to help students relate their service to course concepts through the forum of open discussion with fellow classmates and instructors.
