CS 3604: Assignment 2 (Email message to coworkers and boss)
Spring 2005, Dr. Dunlap
Due dates: 4/26 Wednesday
Approximate size: 1 page
Learning objective:
To practice the priciples of accessibility in a professional memo, note, or posting with Internet or electronic content.
Audience:
Your visually impaired boss who wants to know more about the principles of accessibility related to electronic or Internet content. Assume relatively standard, low end, computer hardware and software. Assume relatively low screen resolution of about 800 x 600 pixels with comparable components.
The Task (What to do):
Your job is to write a hypothetical email demonstrating and explaining the principles of accessible Web content. This can be a standard email, HTML email, or and email with a link to a Web Page that contains the content and message. The message should highlight some or all of the principles for web accessible design (see links below).
Normally email is one of the least formal forms of professional writing that you will do. Quick messages to friends or coworkers can even be ungrammatical, with spelling errors and typos, and the message gets through. Rarely does informality in an email message result in a poor impression on the part of the recipient. However, at times your email writing needs to move up a notch in quality and formality. This usually happens when the topic is more serious and when one or more of the recipients is not well known to the sender. This assignment is one of those times.
For this assignment, pretend you are working in a job as a CS professional and are concerned about the assigned topic/issue. The issue should be treated as thought it were of about medium importance, such that an email message is an appropriate way to raise it for discussion. Write a message that brings the issues to the attention and perhaps suggests appropriate action.
