Scenario:

Due to disturbing circumstances back home, Ensign Rick is meeting with the ship's chaplain to seek advice on whether or not he should ask to go back home urgently. Ensign Rick tells Chaplain Dove he just received an email from his wife that his son is in intensive care at a local hospital. His wife has already made contact with the Red Cross to send official notification to Ensign Rick's ship. Fortunately the ship is in port and communication should be fairly quick. Chaplain Dove says he will personally advance Ensign Rick's case to his supervisor, Lt Ralston, and to Captain Stern who must approve Ensign Rick's departure from the ship. Chaplain Dove usually gets an immediate electronic copy of Red Cross notifications, so he sets up a user proxy to watch his personal email for a Red Cross notification pertaining to Ensign Rick. He tasks the proxy to notify himself immeditately by way of the ship's personnel alerting system, to notfiy Ensign Rick the same way, and to send a copy of the message to Lt Ralston and Captain Stern. While Chaplain Dove is talking to Lt Ralston, his personal alerting system activates with a message from the user proxy indicating the desired message has arrived and that all requested actions have been completed. He and Lt Ralston review the message on Lt Ralston's computer. Lt Ralston attaches the message to an electronic leave request and forwards this to Captain Stern. Lt Rick, upon getting his alert about the message, proceeds to the Captain's stateroom where he meets up with Lt Ralston and Chaplain Dove. The Captain approves the leave request, Lt Rick completes his packing, leaves the ship, and barely makes it to the airport in time to catch the last flight of the day that can take him home.
