Agenda:
Plan to roll up your sleves and participate! The workshop schedule is very flexible and will generally follow this sequence:
- The workshop will begin in the morning of 5/22 with brief introductory remarks and a demonstration of 1-2 case-based activities we have been using in our classes at Virginia Tech.
- We will then move to a more theoretical discussion of what cases are (or could be like), how they have been used in other disciplines, to what effect, etc.
- After lunch we will shift to a more open-ended format, beginning with summaries by attendees of material they have brought to share (e.g. class activities, homeworks, their own examples or cases, evaluation techniques, teaching challenges, etc.)
- After setting the scene in this fashion we will pursue interests, issues, concerns as they arise, but with several high-level goals in mind:
- Work out plans for developing and evaluating case-based activities for teaching usability engineering in 2003-4.
- A plan for how we will coordinate our efforts over the coming year, e.g., using the web site to share ideas, experiemces, resources, etc.
Social:
- We will have dinner together on the Thursday night of May 22 at the Carroll's.
