Case Studies: Meetings

Tuesday, May 15, 2003, Torgersen 3180 (1:10-2:10 pm)

  • Attendees: Mary Beth, Jack, Con, Jacob Somervell(jsomerve@vt.edu)
  • This meeting was called at Jabob's request
  • Jacob is teaching SBD in Summer II (starts on June 30)
  • Purpose of meeting was to investigate opportunities to leverage the course to address case studies reseach issues
    • Jacob wants to get a CHI paper somehow
    • Discussed several possibilities
      • High level efficacy of case study method not likely doable in single course context
        • This has not been done to date in any context
      • Gather student projects in case format
      • Investigate correlation of UCS access with course events
      • Pre-post survey
      • Compare activities
        • Either manipulate some activity parameter across two activities
        • Or manipulate an activity parameter within a single assignment
        • We may be able to learn +/- of conducting activity experiments before we can get good data from any one experiement
  • Meet again soon
    • But Mary Beth will be out of town through June 20
    • Can include Jacob in regular case studies meetings
      • But they are not on a routine for the summer yet
