Editing a page
To edit a page from your web browser, click the "Web Editor" link at the bottom of the page. If you are not already logged in, you will be prompted for a user name and password.
Once logged in you will see the page content in a form. Below the form is a table of "wiki" shorthand that you can use to format the page, embed images and other objects, or add links. You can also use HTML tags.
If you have Java WebStart installed, you can also edit pages and other objects in your site using a more feature-rich interactive editor. To do this, click the "Full Editor" link at the bottom of the page. The software will be downloaded and you will be asked to log in. Once you have authenticated you will see a file-system-like view of the objects in your site. You can double click an object to open and edit it.
Note that multiple people can edit objects in the system simultaneously, via either the web editor or the interactive editor, and conflicts will be automatically resolved.
Editing "sidebar" content and page structure
To edit the content of the "sidebar", the column with links and user list on the left side of the page, click "Site Contents" at the bottom of your project page. In the list, find the entry for the object named "Sidebar", and click the "Web Editor" link next to it.
If you are using the interactive editor, you can double-click the "Sidebar" icon in the listing for your project site.
From the interactive editor you can also change the basic layout and style of your site. Double-click on the "Page Template" object in your site's folder to see the available options.
Adding new pages and other objects
Using the web editor, you can create a new page by simply making a link to a non-existant page. For example, if you edit a page, add text such as:
*Project Notes>projects-notes.html*
then save the page, a button labelled "Create new page named 'project-notes.html'" will appear. When you click this button, the new page will be created.
You can also create new objects (pages, spreadsheets, calendars, chats, discussions, etc...) or upload files by clicking the "Site Contents" link at the bottom of one of your project pages. Below the list of objects is a form for creating new objects, along with a form for uploading a file. Note that the size of the file that can be uploaded varies from browser-to-browser, but in general, large files should not be uploaded (use filebox.vt.edu, email attachments, or ftp for large file transfers).
